May 2026 Food News in the Brandywine Valley

A few of our favorite things to share this month about local food and drink

Historic Wheat

For the first time since the 1880s, the Mill at Anselma has ground wheat flour using its original 19th-century machinery. This feat of industrial preservation overcame past mechanical challenges and returned historic wheat grinding stones to active production. Although the mill has long produced cornmeal, the wheat side of the mill is now fully operational. Purchase wheat flour at their Visitor Center while supplies last. 1730 Conestoga Rd., Chester Springs. AnselmaMill.org

Sláinte

Dublin Brewing Company plans to debut in Downingtown, adding another spot to enjoy craft beer. Years in the making, a taproom, brewhouse and kitchen from longtime homebrewer and Dublin native Brendan Fitzgerald will showcase his beers, including flagship Irish dry stout, Irish red ale and pale ale. Already open for events, the space needs a few final sign-offs at press time to fully launch the dream. 137 Wallace Ave. @DublinBrewing

Vinyl Listening Bar

Yep, that’s what owner Greg Hoy is planning for Swarthmore — an intimate gathering space in the style of Japanese listening bars — a “slow nightlife” vibe. Stylus will be a communal living room, seating about 30, built around music first, then conversation, cocktails, natural wines and small bites in an “intentionally calm” atmosphere. No TVs, dance floor or amplified live music, just high-fidelity vinyl sound. 110 Park Ave. @StylusRoom

Farm-to-Freezer

Imagine a local farm launching a frozen CSA option, preserving peak-season produce for winter pickup — a fresh take on supporting local agriculture beyond harvest months. This approach helps solve a big farm-share problem: too much fresh produce, too fast. While there aren’t any true farm-to-freezer CSA nearby (except for ice cream shares in Upper Bucks), some farms are experimenting with winter shares, storage crops and other items. Just some CSA feedback to share. ChesCoPlanning.org/Agriculture/FarmGuide.cfm

Revolutionary Bourbon

Toast to America’s 250th with Old Glory Red, White & Blue craft bourbon from local distiller Cutter & Cannon Spirits.
