Mud Row at People’s Light—June 26–July 28

Inspired by West Chester, Mud Row makes its world premiere at People’s Light this summer. Written by Tony Award nominee, Dominique Morisseau, the play follows two generations of sisters as they navigate class, race, love and family in the historically segregated East End of West Chester.

When doing her research, Morisseau drew inspiration from the people and places around the Charles A. Melton Arts & Education Center, a community spot that’s served generations of West Chester residents. Read more at our July Theater Spotlight. Tickets $35–$55. More at PeoplesLight.org.

Chester County Garden Tour—June 29

Celebrate the start of summer with a day touring 5 creative and beautiful residential gardens in Chester County. Travel in an air-conditioned bus, enjoying snacks, lunch and early evening cocktails while a tour guide answers all your questions.

Nottingham Park 2019 Freedom Fest—June 29

Bring the whole family to Nottingham Park’s 28th Annual Freedom Fest this Saturday for live music and fireworks. Hear music from Philadelphia singer/songwriter Angelee, and the southeastern PA-based 4-piece rock band, Half Past Seven. Hungry? Grab dinner and snacks from vendors, including Saloon 151, Foltz Pretzels, Nooners Wood Fired Pizza, Baked Cookies and Dough, Rita’s and more!

Top off the evening with fireworks at dusk. Free parking and park admission; charges for food. More at ChesCo.org/CCParks.

Wawa Welcome America—June 29–July 4

Join a huge multigenerational and multicultural Independence Day celebration in the city where it all began with 6 days of free events citywide complete with concerts, block parties, free museum days, movie nights, community events, fireworks and more.

The festivities’ finale is a free July 4th concert with Grammy Award winners, Jennifer Hudson and Meghan Trainor performing alongside the Philly POPS BIG Band. Bring along snacks in your own soft cooler. Alcohol prohibited. Free. More at WelcomeAmerica.com.

Patriotic Concert & Fireworks at Long’s Park—June 30

Start your Independence Day celebrations early this weekend at the Long’s Park Amphitheater. Bring blankets and chairs to sit on the lawn, grill some burgers or hot dogs at the grills around the park, and listen to patriotic music, courtesy of the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own.” And once the sun goes down, get ready for the fireworks display!

Admission to the park and concerts is free; charges for food or drinks from the food trucks. More at LongsPark.org.
