West Chester Preservation Awards Ceremony

This week, we spotted this year’s winners at the 13th annual West Chester Preservation Awards, held at the Chester County History Center!

Every year, the West Chester Downtown Foundation presents awards in two categories: Bricks & Mortar Awards, honoring architectural projects which exemplify best preservation practice, and Special Recognition Awards, celebrating individuals and organizations for significant contributions to the preservation of the borough.

This year’s recipients of Bricks & Mortar Awards are 9 Prime (9 N. High St.), the 1887 Curtis Hoopes Hannum House (322 N. Matlack St.), a c. 1900 house (631 N. Matlack St.) and the c. 1755 Dower House (100 Goshen Rd.) — considered the oldest continuously occupied home in West Chester and the subject of our very first Brandywine Stories column.

Special Recognition Awards were given to local artist John Suplee and County Lines contributing photographer Timlyn Vaughan.

As a special bonus, ceremony attendees were given a map of all 63 Bricks & Mortar Award winners since the program began in 2011.
