Jason McGovern and Chris Rattie & the New Rebels at Burlap & Bean

February 16, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Winner of the 2017 Philadelphia Songwriters Project Songwriting Contest, Jason wants to sing you songs and is trying hard not to overthink it. Just like he overthinks most things. Just like he’s totally overthinking this bio. Leaning on his Americana, singer-songwriterly and offbeat influences, Jason is equally comfortable sitting beside a peaceful stream of quiet acoustic tones as he is drowning in a sea of electric guitars and drums. He just wants to sing you songs – raw, wry and honest song Jason has also appeared on the Lyrikplatz stage at Musikfest in Bethlehem, Pa., WSTW’s Hometown Heroes, abc27’s Good Day PA! and WNJR’s acousticSongs LIVE! Born and raised in Northeastern PA, Chris began playing music initially as a drummer. He learned his craft on Friday and Saturday nights in the hard nosed, coal region pubs scattered throughout once vibrant towns. The bar stools were occupied by tough, working class people, known for blunt honesty but good intent. It’s that “hardness with a big heart” attitude that Chris would later carry into his songwriting. As a drummer and sideman Chris has toured with Raven and The Wren, Vince Welnik ,(formerly of The Grateful Dead and The Tubes), as well as cult favorite, roots-rockers, Marah. Most notably Chris was a drummer and key songwriter in The Rustlanders, who’s second album was produced by Don Was and recorded in L.A.’s famed East West Studios.
