MLK Celebration in Kennett Square

This week, we spotted a local celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy in Kennett Square.

Hosted by MLK CommUNITY of Greater Kennett Square, the 25th annual event kicked off with a fellowship breakfast, followed by a keynote address by Dr. Karsonya Wise Whitehead, National President of the Association for the Study of African-American Life and History, performances and the presentation of the Mabel Latta Thompson Community Service Award. In the afternoon, the “Be a King” Volunteer Fair introduced people to ways that they can become actively involved in civic and community programs.

In honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this year’s theme was “Lift Every Voice, 1776–2026.” By uniting the values of Dr. King’s vision of justice, peace and beloved community with the founding ideals of our nation, the celebration invited attendees to reflect on both our progress and the work that remains in building a more perfect union.
