Lafayette Bicentennial Celebration

This week, we spotted folks in their colonial best for the Lafayette Bicentennial Celebration!

For the 50th anniversary of America’s independence, Revolutionary War hero Marquis de Lafayette returned to the country and toured Chester County. To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Lafayette’s “Farewell Tour,” a daylong celebration was held across the county.

The day kicked off at Thornbury Farm, where Lafayette was posthumously presented with the Pennsylvania Cross for Valor. After the opening ceremonies, attendees walked to Birmingham Hill, where Lafayette was wounded during the Battle of Brandywine.

Festivities continued in West Chester, including afternoon walking tours, a reenactment of Lafayette’s celebratory dinner at Borough Hall, and Lafayette’s Ball at the Chester County History Center.
