Healthy Pets Initiative Makes Significant Strides

Humane Pennsylvania is proud to share impressive progress in its Healthy Pets Initiative (HPI), a program dedicated to helping pets and caretakers in our community and beyond. Since the beginning of the year, HPI has achieved significant milestones in pet food distribution, feral cat sterilization, and accessible veterinary services.

Spike’s Pet Food Pantry: Nearly One Million Meals Served

As of July 2024, Spike’s Pet Food Pantry has distributed a remarkable 709,672 meals to pets in need. This translates to 177,418 pounds of pet food, all made possible through generous donations from individuals, corporations hosting donation drives, and large-scale partnerships. Humane PA is just 290,328 meals short of their target of providing one million meals.

Feral Cat Colonies: A Major Win for Community Cats

In 2024 alone, HPI’s Trap-Neuter Return (TNR) Clinics successfully sterilized 24 cat colonies, bringing the total number of colonies sterilized since the program’s inception in 2023 to 62. This work not only reduces the number of homeless cats but also improves the quality of life for community cats and supports healthier, more balanced local ecosystems.

Accessible Veterinary Care: Vaccines and Microchips for Pets

Humane Pennsylvania’s Pay-What-You-Can Neighborhood Vaccine & Microchip Clinics have been a beacon of hope for many pet owners. To date, HPI has administered 2,446 vaccines and 597 microchips to pets in need, ensuring that these animals receive essential medical care regardless of their owner’s financial situation. These services are vital in preventing disease and guaranteeing pets are returned to their homes safely.
